Night photography at Rutherford Park

Continuing from where I left off yesterday at the top of the steps on rue McTavish, I continued up the hill tooward Rutherford Park that covers the McTavish Reservoir.

I paused on the north side of avenue du Docteur-Penfield to take a shot of the skyline. I added some blur using Topaz Lens Effects as I liked the way it made the street sign pop from the image.

Just before entering Rutherford Park, I made my way to the top of the steep embankement above avenue du Docteur-Penfield. I always enjoy the view from here of the McGill campus and montreal skyline. In the center foreground you can see the Redpath Museum – a great place to visit if you are in town.

At last, I made it to Rutherford Park – which had been my aim from the start.

Looking to the East and the McGill M.H. Wong building, home to the Chemical Engineering department and the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering. The building was named after McGill School of Architecture alumnus Jimmy Man-Hung Wong. If you have visited the McGill campus you may be familiar with the key sculpture at the front of the building that I shot last year.

I was actually surprised at the amount of ice that has already built up on the cliff face below avenue des Pins. You can often see people practicing the sport of ice climbing here during winter, something I have yet to photograph, but will try to capture some in the coming months.

In winter the chateau styled McTavish reservoir pumping station seems very much at home under a blanket of snow.

The rotating Ville-Marie light beam seemed particularly bright even even with the low cloud cover…
