After a fairly long dry spell, we got a short (yet heavy) storm cross over Montreal this afternoon. Since I hadn’t been out to shoot my daily image, I headed out once the rain had stopped to Old Montreal to see if I could find some nice reflections in puddles.
On my way I spotted this cloud that reminded me of the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula. I hadn’t spotted the cross at the time, but thought it added nicely to the vision I had when I took the picture. I actually now see a teddy bear breathing fire and an evil looking claw reaching for the cross – but maybe that’s due to me having stopped smoking today 😉
The image is processed from 3 handheld exposures in Photomatix with some adjustments and slight cropping (removal of top of building) in Lightroom.
Due to the heat (still 30c+), most of the rain water on the streets had evaporated by the time I made it down to rue Saint Paul. Thankfully I found a few puddles still gave me some opportunity to shoot reflections – here is the best of the crop:
This next building reflection I’ve shot before, but I thought I would share anyway – I think the previous one was a lot better though.
There were still some nice clouds overhead together with some great soft lighting as I passed through Place d’Armes, so took a few shots of the majestic buildings surrounding the square, including the Notre-Dame Basilica.
Hopefully it won’t be raining tomorrow night as Montreal plays host to the Greek firework team – so hope to be sharing more firework shots tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.

Hi Martin, great creative use of the puddle reflections here, and have to say your firework shots were a great post, some fantastic shots you come away with, hope all is well overseas ?
Thanks Steve…I’m enjoying the current firework competition and still 5 more shows to go. All is good here…will you be going to the Olympics at any time?
Hi Martin,
Im not quite sure about going to the Olympics, I think its going to be such a effort getting into London (its bad enought as it is!!) I am going on holiday to Devon shortly so I hope to get some great shots while im there though 😉
I imagine London will be totally crazy, so I understand you heading down to Devon…I used to go to Cornwall every year as a kid and would love to visit again sometime – great scenery down that way and look forward to seeing your pics.
I think your photos would look good in the magazine on board VIA trains (VIA) and the one on Air Canada flights (En Route).
Me too 😉
Wow amazing pictures! I love the reflections!
Thanks Mrs Sasu…I enjoyed taking these reflections 🙂
