Montreal In Pictures

I had been hoping that Saturday would be a great day for taking some late winter shots around town given the ~~Spring~~ Winter storm that blanketed the city on Friday. For good or bad by Saturday the temperature had warmed up and the snow was now mainly slush – not quite the white wonderland I had been hoping for. But since I had my weekly pictures to take I decided to still head down to Old Montreal to grab some shots.

One building that I haven’t photographed much is the Quebec Court of Appeal on rue Notre-Dame – formerly the Palais de justice de Montréal. Known as the Ernest Cormier Building, it was built between 1922-26 and bears the name of the building architect. I’ve never been inside and not sure how easy it is to get in – certainly doubt photography is permitted inside anyway – without going through a lot of red tape.

Opposite the appeal Court is the Édifice Lucien-Saulnier which housed the original Montréal Courthouse (which is now housed in the modern building next door). The building was inaugurated in 1856 and designed by John Ostell.

I took a quick look inside Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours Chapel (the oldest church in Montreal) on rue Saint Paul. Unfortunately I didn’t have my tripod with me so had to shoot at high ISO. In fact, tripod’s aren’t allowed but I will try to seek permission before I visit again and plan to also visit the adjacent Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum‎. Here are a couple of shots for now…

Today the weather was a little better and so took my camera out with me again and so here are a few shots taken earlier today around rue Saint Denis and rue Ontario East.

I spotted across the road an old camper van that was nicely matching the color of paint on the windows behind. But then I realized the windows were of one of my old favorite drinking holes – L’Île Noire – and that it was no longer there 🙁

When I got home I did a search and thankfully found that the bar had relocated round the corner to the adjacent rue Saint Denis – so guess I will be heading down there soon to check out the new spot.

We ended up spending the afternoon at the Archambault store – A great place for music, including instruments…luckily I came out having only purchased a Mumford and Sons CD that was on special offer.
