Montreal skyline at night

Following on from where I left off yesterday with some bokeh shots taken at the Kondiaronk lookout on Mount Royal, today I have a few more shots of the Montreal skyline at night taken from the Belvédère, this time a bit more in focus.

As I mentioned yesterday, following the rain throughout the day, the paths to the chalet were pretty icy and the large terrace could have doubled as an ice rink (although not the best quality finish).

For the shot above I decided to go for a smaller aperture of f13 to get the star bursts of the lights. It’s a shame the icy ground was not smoother as the reflections of the chalet would have been pretty cool.

For the next shot, I went with a larger aperture (f5) partly to avoid any star burst from the lamp in the foreground and the rotating Ville-Marie lights, but also to allow a faster shutter speed in order to capture the Ville-Marie light beam. It took a few attempts to fire the shutter at the right time so that the beam was pointing to the top right of the frame, but perseverence paid off 🙂

One advantage of having a low cloud base is that the green lights on the Complexe Desjardins buildings cast a reflection in the clouds.

Despite the inclement weather conditions, I was pleased I had decided to head up the mountain to take some night shots. Although I’ve taken many skyline shots from Mount Royal, I managed to get a few new looks for the image library, perhaps even a few will make it into the skyline gallery store.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
