After a fairly long dry spell, we got a short (yet heavy) storm cross over Montreal this afternoon. Since I hadn’t been out to shoot my daily image, I headed out once the rain had stopped to Old Montreal to see if I could find some nice reflections in puddles.
On my way I spotted this cloud that reminded me of the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula. I hadn’t spotted the cross at the time, but thought it added nicely to the vision I had when I took the picture. I actually now see a teddy bear breathing fire and an evil looking claw reaching for the cross – but maybe that’s due to me having stopped smoking today 😉
The image is processed from 3 handheld exposures in Photomatix with some adjustments and slight cropping (removal of top of building) in Lightroom.
Due to the heat (still 30c+), most of the rain water on the streets had evaporated by the time I made it down to  rue Saint Paul. Thankfully I found a few puddles still gave me some opportunity to shoot reflections – here is the best of the crop:
This next building reflection I’ve shot before, but I thought I would share anyway – I think the previous one was a lot better though.
There were still some nice clouds overhead together with some great soft lighting as I passed through Place d’Armes, so took a few shots of the majestic buildings surrounding the square, including the Notre-Dame Basilica.
Hopefully it won’t be raining tomorrow night as Montreal plays host to the Greek firework team – so hope to be sharing more firework shots tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
