Project 365 – Day 265: The changing skyline of Montreal

September 21 2012

This morning I headed down to  the Bassins Peel to see how the skyline was changing with all the condo developments going on in Griffintown. Skyline shots of Montreal from the Bassins Peel are less common than those taken from, say; Mount Royal, Ile Sainte Hélène or the Old Port, which is a shame as it’s actually one of my favorite spots.

The new projects of Griffintown are indeed changing the skyline. Is it a good addition ? I will wait until the construction is complete before I decide

While I was shooting a couple of guys stopped to let their large family of dogs have a run and swim. The dogs were a cross between Husky and Rottweiler and were extremely cute and playful. There were about 10 dogs in total and included 3 month old pups, their mum and dad and a grandparent – quite the family. I wish now I had taken some pics of them 🙁

It’s been a while since I shot a panorama, but managed to do one this morning. I’ve not done many HDR pano’s in the past, so thought I may as well shoot multiple exposures and give it a try. The panorama was made with 8 shots each with 3 bracketed exposures. I first tone mapped each frame in Photomatix Pro and then stitched in Photoshop Elements 10, finishing up with some adjustments in Lightroom 4.

If you follow the bike path over the green bridge and beneath the railway line toward rue Wellington you will see where they filled in the Wellington Tunnel that I shot from the other side of the Lachine Canal the other day.

This next shot was taken from the railway embankment near what was the southern entrance to the tunnel.

While I was up next to the railway tracks, since this line feeds Montreal Central railway station, I thought I would hang for a while to see if I could catch a train leaving Montreal. As luck would have it, a train came along within 5 minutes. I didn’t hang around to shoot another though since I’m pretty sure I wasn’t supposed to be there :-/

On my way back, I headed through the Old Port where a cruise ship was in port, so I had to get the camera out again and grab a few more pics for the day.
