It was a beautiful crisp winter morning in Montréal today. I was down in Old Montreal first thing to pick up some prints for a client and so took the opportunity to walk down to the Vieux Port de Montréal. Although the forecast was for a chill factor of -12, in the sun it was not that cold, in fact it was perfect.
I started over near the Bota Bota Spa next to the Grain Silo #5 on the Promenade du Vieux Port. The steam coming off the outdoor pool looked quite inviting.

For the next shot, taken from near the Pointe-à-Callière looking toward the 1000 de-la-Gauchetière building, I decided to try out the Topaz B&W effects software that I purchased yesterday as part of the complete bundle package in their Black Friday sale – 14 photo editing softwares for only $199 with the coupon code ‘blackfriday2013’ (offer ends Dec 2).
One particular option I like is that you can adjust the opacity of the effects added to bring back some of the original image – which I did with this shot.

While up on the elevated walkway on the Jacques-Cartier Quay, I thought I would try a panorama shot of the skyline – I don’t think I have done one from here before. Not having my tripod with me, I took 7 handheld shots and thankfully managed to overlap sufficiently to stitch the images in PS Elements. Since I used my wide angle, the panorama ended being curved, or at least, I think that is the reason.

The Ice Rink at the Bassin Bonsecours opens for the season tomorrow and with the recent cold spell and snow, it looks like perfect timing.
I’m looking forward to the TELUS Fire on ice! I missed this winter fireworks event last year, but will certainly make it to one (hopefully more) this year. The fireworks will be on December 14, 21, 28 and January 4 at 8PM.
