In the vicinity of Square Dorchester

I was going to title today’s post simply ‘Square Dorchester’ but thought that would be a bit misleading since I didn’t actually take any photo’s showing much of the square itself when I was there yesterday – more on Peel and Metcalf that run adjacent to the square.

I’ve always liked the old Windsor Hotel building on Peel street. Built in 1875-8, along with the lower level old buildings on Peel, it provides a great contrast against the modern sky scrapers south of boulevard René-Lévesque. Unfortunately the Windsor is no longer a hotel (closed in 1981) and now houses the headquarters of Valeurs Mobilieres Desjardins, other offices and a Chinese restaurant – Le Piment Rouge (which I have yet to try).

On the north end of the square is a nice café housed in a similar building to that found on Square Saint Louis in Le Plateau.

On the other side of the square is Metcalfe street.

Alleys are always interesting to photograph and I should shoot more of them downtown. This one is located just off Metcalfe adjacent to Dunn’s Famous, the smoked meat restaurant opened since 1927 – sadly another place I’ve never actually eaten at 🙁

If you want to see more images of Dorchester Square I did do a post highlighting the monuments there.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
