Place d’Armes at dusk

On my way back from the Old Port on Monday evening, I passed through Place d’Armes and took a few moments to get a couple of shots.

I decided to concentrate on shooting from the north of the square, looking toward the Notre-Dame Basilica. The light was beginning to dim and not having my tripod with me I had to find suitable supports (ground, pillars, lamp posts and benches) to help steady the camera for some of the shots.

For a couple of images, I decided to give a slight tilt-shift look to them and particularly liked how the first came out since the image was a little out of focus to begin with 😉

Before getting to Place d’Armes I walked along the elevated walkway on the Jacques-Cartier Pier. I happened to notice a couple on bikes having fun on the large vacant ground riding their bike through the flock of birds resting in the late sun – I made a note-to-self that this is a great vantage point for shooting long shadows in the late afternoon…

I should have photographed at a faster exposure, but they ended up being a good subject matter for experimenting with the creative blur in Topaz Lens Effects.

The sunset on Monday was not so great since there were no clouds, but I always love the light just before the sun dips behind Mount Royal and the glow it gives to the downtown buildings. I didn’t manage to do the light the justice it deserved, but here are a couple of the better attempts.

For a similar shot to the above, I decided to go for a retro style

Hopefully tomorrow I will get back out to shoot some autumn colors, that is if today’s wind has left some leaves on the trees.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
