Yesterday was pretty gloomy, with drab overcast sky that really didn’t get my creative juices flowing. I was all out of pics to share, so I did venture out, and headed straight for the Montreal underground city (The RÉSO).
The RÉSO was conceived in 1962 with the construction of Place Ville Marie. Through the years the underground city and the pedestrian tunnels that link the shopping centers, commercial and residential buildings and the downtown metro system has steadily grown to include 32km of tunnels and become one of the largest underground networks in the world.
My favorite section is one of the more modern additions (2003) to the network and links Square Victoria with the Palais des Congrès.
I entered at the Victoria Station Metro entrance. Despite having my tripod with me, I decided to go for a gritty look for the images and dial up the ISO to enable me to take relatively steady hand-held shots.
For fun, I rotated the above image 90 degrees counter clockwise…
One of the great parts of this section of tunnels is that there are quite a few works of public art on display.
I was fortunate that there were not too many people walking in the tunnel while I was shooting, although having people in the image does help give some life to the images. I took a couple of bracketed shots of a guy walking in the distance with the idea of making an HDR, but instead decided to process each separately…
A personal favorite part of this section is the art installation by Christian Kiopini called Stratifications Pariétales (3 Éléments) chambre Secrète – contreforts – Rayons.
Finally, you may have noticed I didn’t post yesterday – due to having only got to processing one image from my shooting yesterday. But if you missed the photo of the day I posted over on Facebook, Google + and Twitter, this is what you missed 😉
Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
