I was up at the Lozeau camera store on Saint Hubert this afternoon and decided to head over to Jean Talon Market which is one of the four main public markets in Montreal (the others being Atwater, Maisonneuve and Lachine).
Jean Talon market was built in 1932 on the Shamrock Stadium grounds (dating from 1914) which were dedicated to the game of lacrosse. The markets are open 12 months of the year. It takes 5 days at the end of October to prepare Jean Talon for the winter season by erecting 160 panels and 30 double doors. In the summer the market is open air and features local farmers and merchants selling a wide range of local produce. I wish I lived closer to one of these markets as the quality is way superior (and generally cheaper) than the bland tasting produce sold at the supermarket 🙁
