Project 365 – Day 221: Lunchtime in Parc La Fontaine

August 8 2012

Another wonderful sunny day here in Montreal, so I took a quick walk around Parc La Fontaine at lunchtime.

One guy had the perfect idea and spot for enjoying the great weather.

On the east side of the lake there is a monument of the Québec poet, writer, actor and political activist Félix Leclerc (1914-1988).

I found this old video on Youtube of him singing Moi Mes Souliers

In the middle of Parc Lafontaine is the Centre Calixa Lavallée which is home to Art Neuf, a non-profit organization that promotes arts and provides a variety of training courses, exhibitions and other services to the public interested in the arts.

At the corner of Avenue du parc La Fontaine and rue Laurier stands the Monument à Dollard des Ormeaux. The monument is a tribute to Adam Dollard, sieur des Ormeaux (1635-1660), usually known simply as Dollard des Ormeaux, a colonist and soldier of New France, who was killed by the Iroquois at the Battle of Long Sault. Created by sculptor Alfred Laliberté and the architect Alphonse Venne the monument was inaugurated in Parc Lafontaine on June 24, 1920.

A key feature of parc La Fontaine are the 2 lakes, the upper lake having a large fountain at one end.

For a couple of shots I used the ND 3.0 filter to smooth out the water of the lake.

After leaving the park I cut through the back lane running parallel to rue de Mentana and found a few ‘nice’ photo subjects.
