I was planning to share some shots today from last night and the final Telus Fire on Ice firework display in the Old Port, but on arriving home this afternoon I saw that there was a fire in an apartment building down the street on the corner of rue University and rue Prince Arthur. So I quickly grabbed the camera and my coat and headed outside again.
There was a lot of smoke and thankfully the large number of firefighters on the scene seemed to have it under control and prevented it spreading to the adjacent buildings – although the neighboring buildings certainly received smoke and water damage.
Unfortunately a firefighter was injured while fighting the fire and was carried down a ladder on a stretcher. I Hope his injuries are not serious and that he makes a speedy recovery.
I would like to give a nod of appreciation to the firefighters of Montreal who do an outstanding job, often putting their own safety on the line to protect others. To find out more on the Montréal fire service, I highly recommend a visit to the wonderful Musée des Pompiers de Montréal on Boulevard Saint Laurent – which I covered in a previous post following my visit to the firefighter museum in 2012.
Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
