I was passing through Place d’Armes this afternoon and saw 2 new sculptures have appeared outside the National Bank building.
The tall bronze sculptures called The English Pug and the French Poodle (Le caniche français et le carlin anglais) are by Montreal artist Marc-André J Fortier – the artist who did the 4 great hockey statues that were at La Place du Centenaire next to the Bell Centre. The hockey statues are currently in storage due to the Tour des Canadiens condo development, but will be located at the new plaza to be built between the Bell Centre and Windsor Station.
I’m not sure when the new sculptures were unveiled, but since the lights to illuminate them are not yet functional, I would guess very recently. I look forward to seeing (and photographing) them at night when the lights will make them a great subject to shoot considering their location.
First, The English Pug / le carlin anglais. This sculpture is on the south side of Place d’Armes. The expression on the pug’s face is superb
I love the expression on the pug’s face…
On the north side of the square is The French Poodle / Le caniche français sculpture…I like how it appears the 2 dogs are eager to meet, not so much their owners.
Great to see some new art works put on display in places where the general public can enjoy them, and this is really a nice location for these amazing sculptures.
Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
