Montreal In Pictures

On the way downtown today, I passed through the McGill university campus. On the steps of the M.H. Wong Building is the Key sculpture by Montreal sculptor Jacek Jarnuszkiewicz. Constructed of brass, copper and stainless steel the work represents the keys to knowledge. The material chosen is quite apt given the Wong Building is home to the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Mining and Metallurgical Engineering.

On the next images, you can see the design on the closest key is a reference to the homes on Le Plateau.

Other works by Jarnuszkiewicz are located at Atwater Market, the Pointe-à-Calliere museum in Old Montreal and the Cartier metro station.

While still in the McGill University campus I shot the entrances of two of the wonderful old grey stone buildings on the Eastern side of the campus.

There were some great cloud formations today, so the last couple of shots were taken up near avenue du Parc and Des Pins where I tried capturing some of the clouds over downtown. Despite the stormy look in some, it didn’t actually rain – amazing considering that today was a public holiday 😉

You will probably have noticed that the shutter speeds on many of the pictures were pretty high. The reason I went for high speed was due to bracketing and not having my tripod had to take handheld. I found that using a high shutter speed together with continuous shooting mode helped keep movement between the shots to a minimum. I was perhaps a little on the high side still though.
