For a change today I headed west along Sherbrooke to shoot around Westmount City Hall.

Across the street from City Hall is Selwyn House private school for boys that was founded in 1908 by Captain Algernon Lucas who had graduated from Selwyn College at Cambridge University.

Just east of City Hall stands the Westmount cenotaph – a memorial to the soldiers from Westmount who lost their lives in the Great War and WWII. Wreaths surrounded the base, remaining from the remembrance day service.

Looking at the sculpture, I had thought it was by Montreal artist Coeur de Lion McCarthy, given the similarity to McCarty’s Angel of Victory monument at Windsor station. However, the statue above the Westmount cenotaph is by George William Hill, completed in 1922. I’ve shot a number of his other well known statues here in Montreal, including: The George Étienne Cartier Monument and the Boer War memorial and Lion Of Belfort in Dorchester Square.

Rather than take the bus back, I decided to walk back along Sherbrooke. I grabbed a couple more shots as a result, this first one of an old car in front of Dawson College.
