I didn’t have time to go out and shoot today, but fortunately had a couple of shots left to share from my mini photowalk on Tuesday evening.
On my way to Old Montreal I passed by the Palais des Congrès de Montréal. I didn’t go inside but stopped to take a couple of shots on the north-east side along avenue Viger and the corner of rue Saint-Urbain.
Despite having my tripod with me, I took the lazy option and rested my camera against a lamp-post in order to take a longer exposure without having to dial-up the ISO.

On avenue Viger, there’s a covered pedestrian walkway that is illuminated by yellow lights. I shot 3 bracketed exposures but still had issues with processing the bright reflections of the car tail lights on the ceiling. As a work around, I decided to give the image a pseudo tilt-shift effect and blurring the upper half of the image.

On my way back from Old Montreal I passed the west side of the congress center on rue de Bleury which is well-known for the multicoloured glass façade. The glass design was by Montreal architect, Hal Ingberg, and was completed in 2003 when the Palais des Congrès was enlarged.
During the day the glass casts multicoloured blocks of light on the floor and staircases, which continuously transform as the angle of the sun changes throughout the day. For a glimpse of how the glass appears during the day from inside, you can see a few shots here.

I am hoping that the work being carried out on La Joute will end soon. This wonderful fountain by Quebec artist Jean-Paul Riopelle has been out of action all year. I’m not sure what repairs are being done, although when I photographed it in the summer of 2012 the gas flames were not working. Ever since then I’ve been waiting to go back and shoot it in all its glory…hopefully next year !
