Project 365 – Day 236: A slow day when experimenting doesn’t go to plan

August 23 2012

With not having much time to go and shoot today I wandered over to blvd Saint Laurent where I knew the road was closed for one of the street annual sales events.

I had earlier read a short article on DPS with tips for candid street shooting using zone focusing and thought maybe there would be lots of interesting subjects to experiment the technique on. Basically zone focusing is a technique useful for taking pics without having to look through the view finder – useful in certain street photography situations. With this in mind I headed out armed only with my wide angle 10-20mm lens.

Unfortunately I didn’t see many interesting targets to practice on and found that those I did try to capture shooting from the hip were often partly out of frame – even if they were in focus. So having hopefully sorted the focus zoning thing out, now I need to concentrate on directing the damn camera in the right direction 😉

Thankfully I did take a couple of standard pics where I looked through the viewfinder – although looking at them you probably wouldn’t have guessed 😉 I was really not in the photographing zone today.

My single zone focused shot taken from the hip worthy of sharing was of a lone Buddhist monk walking up blvd Saint Laurent.
