Bonsecours Basin glowing with autumn colors

Yesterday I headed down to the Vieux Port de Montréal to shoot the autumn colors around the Bonsecours Basin. This is one of my favorite spots to view the autumn colors due to the backdrop of the city skyline and the reflections in the basin.

I shot here on September 27 last year during my 365 project. I tried to get a few different angles this year, but hard to resist taking some of the obvious compositions.

However, unlike last year when I shot in the morning, yesterday I arrived around 5pm and the light was pretty good, plus clear blue skies helped provide some nice color contrast in the  reflections.

I used to struggle letting people know when was the best time to visit Montreal to catch the autumn colors – I can now state that the last week of September and the first and second week of October appear to be a safe bet – although if planning to head to Quebec city or further north, then definitely end of September/first week of October should be good.

Just to finish today’s post…a black and white image of the Marché Bonsecours:

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
