Project 365 – Day 362: A long drive to a beautiful Québec City under snow

December 27 2012

I read that montreal received a record amount of snow for the 27th December – 45cm. For someone who doesn’t get off the island that much, it probably wasn’t the best day to be driving to Québec City, but the hotel and rental car were reserved so we decided to make a break for it. We ended up pretty much following the storm all the way, at times with visibility almost zero and only able to know where the road was by keeping relatively close to the back of a truck, not really advisable, but better than driving into a tree.

After 5+ hours (the journey normally takes 2.5) we arrived in Québec City and after a nice supper with one of Guylaine’s sisters, we headed to the Hotel Clarendon and took a little walk around the immediate area before heading to the nearby bar.

A new light festival started a few days ago called  QébecAdabra and features a number of illuminated art installations at various points around the city. The one next to our hotel looked particularly nice with the fresh snow.

While we were having supper, as you would expect the snowplough of course passed by and buried the car in the driveway which we then had to ‘dig’ out – thankfully our friends have a snowblower 🙂

The storm has thankfully passed, so hopefully I now have a few good days to get some wintertime shots of Québec City 🙂
