Project 365 – Day 130: Montreal in miniature, skyline and a shy raccoon

May 9 2012

On my way home this afternoon I noticed storm clouds building to the north, so decided to head up Mount Royal in the hope that a thunderstorm would provide some good photo ops. By the time I got to the lookout the storm clouds had vanished into thin air. Still, having made the trek, I shot some HDR skyline images and a few shots for some tilt-shift experimentation.

First the tilt-shift results. With Photoshop 6 having a tilt-shift feature in the filter options, the biggest problem I find with tilt-shift is actually finding good view points to shoot from. For the following shots, I found an open area on the escarpment path that winds round from the voie Camillien Houde lookout.

For the HDR landscape/skyline shots, I decided to process in black and white.

Here’s a color version as a reference to show the tree foliage is now pretty much out. The warm few days last weekend and Monday, followed by yesterday’s rain made the mountain turn from brown to green in a matter of just a few days…Next year I should think of doing a time-lapse 😉

Along the escarpment path I came across these flowers growing in abundance. As I have pointed out in a previous post, my flora knowledge isn’t that good and I have no idea what flowers these are, so feel free anyone with green fingers to post the name in the comments.

I spotted this shy little guy looking out of his house. Unfortunately he was a tad camera shy and didn’t want to come out any further…but now I know where he lives, I will be keeping an eye out for him when in the area to try and get a better shot. There’s supposedly a large population of Raccoons on the mountain, but this was the first I saw close up.
