McGill University Campus from above

I’m still working my way through the shots I took while out photographing on Monday. Today, I have some pictures of downtown Montreal (particularly the area around McGill University campus) that were taken from the escarpment path that leads from the Camillien Houde Belvédère to the staircase below the Kondiaronk Belvédère on Mount Royal.

There are a number of spots along the path that provide some great views of downtown and is one of my favorite paths on Mount Royal, never too many people and as I say, some great views of Montreal.

In particular, you have a good view of the Jacques Cartier bridge. I took a couple of shots and processed with a tilt shift effect, first with the bridge as the focal point, and then with it out of focus and the junction of avenue du Parc and avenue des Pins as the key focus area.

Despite there being quite a haze, Mont Saint Hilaire and Mont Saint Bruno were clearly visible and made a nice backdrop to Ile Sainte Hélène with the Biosphére and Lévis Tower.

As you make your way toward the Kondiaronk Belvédère you begin to see more of the downtown core.

In the next couple of shots you can clearly see the McGill University downtown campus and Redpath Museum above Rutherford Park/McTavish Reservoir.

I thought it would be fun to try a multi-image panorama. Although I had my tripod with me, I decided to use the quick and rough handheld technique and hopefully have the images overlap so that Photoshop could work its’ magic and stick all 11 images together. It worked out pretty well.

Although I could have cropped to give a nice clean edge, I decided to leave the image as it was but added a little tilt shift effect and some color processing…
