A bit late posting yesterdays images, but since it was my birthday and Guinness was involved, I think I can be excused 😉
I have to say, I’m not a morning person and normally require 3 coffees to face the forthcoming day (and at least 7 hours sleep). But today yesterday was special in that it was my birthday and I had set my mind to getting up at 5am to walk to the top of Mount Royal and catch the sun rising over downtown Montreal. What I hadn’t accounted for was that I would have only 3 hours sleep the night before and up in time to grab a single coffee. But I had a plan and was intent on sticking to it.
Even though I’ve lived in Montreal now for 13 years (-4 days), this was actually the first time I made it up Mount Royal to see a sunrise. Given that the summit is only a 30 minute brisk hike from home I really should do it more often – although getting up earlier than 5 may mean I won’t be doing it again until late summer/autumn.
Since it was still pitch black out, I wasn’t even sure the sunrise would be worth it. As I made my way up the flights of stairs to the chalet look out I could see the sky was completely clear with a few clouds – not promising for a memorable sunrise, but I had come this far, so to the summit I climbed.
I’m glad I made the effort and was a great way to start celebrating the beginning of another year of life, and finishing the day with friends and Guinness rounded off a perfect day – even if it meant I’m now playing blog post catch-up.
