Project 365 – Day 311: Place Ville Marie Christmas lights

November 6 2012

It still seems rather early to be photographing Christmas tree lights, but since they have now erected the annual festive decoration at Place Ville Marie and turned the lights on, I was keen to see what varied shots I could pull off.

The Place Ville Marie Christmas tree has been an annual tradition since 1962 when PVM first opened its doors. Made in New York, the tree stands 63 feet high, 26 feet in diameter at the base and is decorated with 13,000 lights…glad I’m not the one having to untangle that lot and find the faulty bulb preventing all the lights from working.

Something I wanted to try was shooting upward from inside the tree. I didn’t see any security around (I guess if they were, I would have been quickly told to leave), so I managed to grab a few shots laying on my back in the center of the tree.

I’m now waiting for a big snow storm when I will re-visit for some more pics and a more festive looking scene.
