Cirque du Soleil’s Big Top is back in town

The Cirque du Soleil is once again premiering their upcoming new show in the Old Port of Montreal. This year the show is called Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities and opens on April 24 and runs through to June 29.

Since the Cirque is a fairly regular fixture in the Montreal spring calendar, I have taken many shots of the iconic blue and yellow big top over the past years, so when I was down in the Old Port earlier in the week I tried to shoot it a little different.

I happened to be on the King Edward Quay that gives a nice view of the adjacent Jacques Cartier Quay where the Cirque du Soleil’s big top is located.

Being a bright sunny day there were some nice reflections in the water between the quays and so I primarily concentrated on getting some shots of the big top reflection.

While shooting I noticed some nice icicles hanging off the guard rail which made for a nice foreground subject. I called this next image ‘Cirque on ice’ that made me think that would be a ‘cool’ concept – sorry for the pun 😉

From the images I’ve seen of this year’s show, it appears the theme will in a steampunk style. Back in 2012 I did a mirror image of the big top which turned out to resemble something you may think was inspired by Jules Verne and seemed appropriate to repost it here.

BTW…I added this image to my Fine Art America Gallery if you would like a copy 😉

Another rendition I did made me think of a surrealist fish…

I still have quite a few shots to share from my visit to the Vieux Port earlier in the week and will hopefully get some time over the weekend to share some more images.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
