Montreal Olympic flame rekindled

At 11am on 7 February the Olympic cauldron at the Montreal Olympic stadium was been rekindled. The flame will continue to burn until the closure of the Sochi games on Febraury 23. The flame will be lit again between 7 to 16 March for the Paralympic Games.

Yesterday I passed by the stadium to get some shots.

In addition to the flame, I had hoped to shoot the tower of the stadium that I heard was going to be lit in multiple colours in solidarity with the LGBT community. However, I missed my opportunity since it was only illuminated with rainbow colours during the first night of the Sochi winter games. For the remaining duration of the Olympics, the tower will be illuminated in orange and amber (reflecting the colour of the Olympic flame). Generally the tower is illuminated in blue and white (for Quebec), but I discovered the Olympic Park does entertain submissions by non-profits to change the colour in support of an event, cause or particular organization.

On my way back to the metro station, I grabbed a shot of the outdoor ice rink at the Olympic Park

Since I arrived before dusk, I had time to take a walk around the Botanical Gardens next to the stadium. I’ll be sharing those pictures another day.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
