Last night I ventured out into the cold and stopped at a few places downtown to take some evening shots that I plan sharing over the next few days.
For today, I have a shot of the Cathédrale Marie-Reine-Du-Monde on boulevard René-Lévesque. This was yesterday’s photo of the day which, if you follow me on any of the social networks (Facebook, Google+ and Twitter), you may have already seen.

Light Trails on rue de la Gauchetière
Just around the corner is Place du Canada. I planned to shoot from the elevated walkway that leads from the square to the Place du Canada towervand the Marriott Château Champlain Hotel. Being elevated above rue de la Gauchetière, I thought it would make a great spot to shoot some car light trails.
For the first shot I added a tilt shift effect in post using Topaz Lens Effects. Lens Effects makes adding a tilt shift effect a breeze, so much easier than when I used to do it in Photoshop. It’s probably my favorite tool in the Lens Effects tool box.

Just before I left, I took a shot looking up at the 1000 de la Gauchetière, Place du Canada tower and Marriot Château Champlain. With the wide angle I was able to get all 3 in the frame. It was a bit hit and miss as I couldn’t see the image in the live view/viewfinder and didn’t feel like lying on the ground to compose the shot…thankfully my guess work as to where to point was not too bad.
