This afternoon I managed to shoot the murals on Saint Laurent between rue Sherbrooke and Prince Arthur. There are 8 installations surrounding the various car parks and impossible to miss if you are in the area. The murals were done during the recent Montreal MURALES Festival that drew artists from around the world. This follows 2 previous posts on July 8 and July 22 where I posted pics of some of the other murals further up on Saint-Laurent done during the MURALES festival held in early June.

Before looking at each in more detail, here is a panoramic shot taken from blvd Saint-Laurent. I thought of doing a 360 from the middle of the car park as you can only just see about half the murals – but the sun was not at a helpful angle (but then some strong sun flare may have been cool.

First up is the mural by Montreal based artist, Jason Botkin. He has has exhibited his work in Canada, the United States and Europe and is the co-founder and director of En Masse (see below for the mural by the Collecti En Masse.

Next to Botkin’s mural is one done by LNY (Lunar New Year) from New Jersey, USA. His murals are a combination of mythological animals, portraits and secular iconography – clearly displayed in his work here.

Moving on, Le Bonnard (from Sherbrooke, Quebec) is the founder of MTL ZOO, artistic director of Empty Can and member of Collectif En Masse.

I love the ‘simplicity’ of the next one by Escif from Valencia, Spain. This is his first mural in North America – Hopefully we will see more of his great work in the future.

Chris Dyer started tagging on the streets of Lima, Peru, and now lives in Montreal. You can see the South American influence hasn’t been lost.

Gaia is a Baltimore street artist who uses animal imagery to underscore his interest in bringing nature to urban landscapes. For his mural in Montreal, he included an image of René-Lévesque (founder of the Parti Québécois). I may be wrong but I guess the line down the middle represents boulevard Saint-Laurent (which in the past acted as a line between the Anglo (West) and French (East) populations.

Across the street at another car park is a mural by Christina Angelina from California and FinDac (left hand side) from the UK.
