Thank you sunshine for deciding to show your face again. Given that I’m on a tight deadline for capturing some shots for a client, I was hoping to get out today and cross off the majority of shots I need on the assignment list.
Thankfully I managed to pretty much complete what I set out to shoot and ended up covering about 20km on foot. It’s been a while since I walked that far and now having trouble moving any further than the couch to the fridge for a beer. Last year I covered this distance often during my 365 project, but appears I’m a little out of practice (and shape).
At least I discovered a few new spots for taking shots, and so, for today’s post, I have a couple of shots taken along chemin de la Côte des Neiges, a street I don’t often walk along.
In actual fact the first shot was taken on Docteur Penfield. The Montreal General Hospital is located on the south side of Mount Royal and and is clearly seen above the row of homes on Penfield. The MGH was founded in 1821 and was a pioneer hospital in North America, introducing bedside teaching and founding the first medical school in Canada — the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University (of which it is still a part of).

Chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges

Between chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges and McDougall road is the impressive chateau style Trafalgar apartment building. Built in 1931 it sits adjacent to the equally impressive Scottish Baronial Gleneagles that was built in 1929. In between the two tall apartment blocks are two houses – Manoir Thompson (1907) and Sparrow (1910). In 2002 all 4 buildings were recognized by the Quebec Government as historic sites, just in time to save the 2 houses from the wreckers ball and plans to build condo’s on the site.
Unfortunately I only got shots of The Trafalgar, but if you have 7$ Million to spare the Sparrow is currently on the market…Details here 😉
