Project 365 – Day 277: A foggy Autumn morning on Mount Royal

October 3 2012

On my way for coffee this morning there was quite a thick layer of fog and I was glad that I had decided to bring by camera gear with me in order to go shooting immediately after I’d filled up with my morning caffeine intake.

The cloud base looked quite low and I was in two minds whether to head over to Ile Sainte Hélène and hope the city was visible from there, or head up Mount Royal and hope the fog was low enough that the top of the mountain would be above the fog layer.

I’ve been wanting to take a specific shot for a long time now taken from the top of Mount Royal, where the Montreal skyscrapers are rising out from a low cloud cover below. With this in mind, I decided to head up to the Kondiaronk Belvedere on Mount Royal.

When I arrived all you could see was a white wall of cloud, no building visible and certainly not what I was hooping for. Fortunately I stuck around and the fog began to disperse and the light and view was pretty spectacular.

To give you an idea of the view before the fog cleared…

Although I didn’t get the shot I was hoping for, I’m still glad I made the trek to the Belvedere, although wonder what the view was like from Ile Sainte Hélène.

I also managed to take a few time lapse both at the Belvedere and down near the bottom of the staircase. Maybe if I can get some time to work on it tomorrow I’ll include in tomorrows post (only if it’s worthy of sharing of course).
