September 29 2012
I was lacking inspiration today as to what to go and shoot, so just grabbed a few shots while walking around.
The shot of the day is of the flower stand on rue Saint Denis (just north of Sainte Catherine). With it being overcast, the light was pretty flat, so I shot 3 exposures and tone mapped, then added a few graduations with adjusted temperatures and brightness to help add depth and guidance.
There’s been a Manga exhibition on at the Grande Bibliothèque for a while, but not being a huge Manga fan I hadn’t been to check it out. As we were passing we decided to call in and take a look. I’ve found in the past that taking photographs in the library (even the entrance) is not permitted, but the displays and lighting in the manga exhibition prompted me to snap a few discrete shots without drawing the attention of any of the security staff.
On the way home, we came across a small military march coming down avenue du Parc, so I managed to get a few additional shots to complete what had been a pretty quiet shooting day.
Edit: Amanda informed me that the march was in fact a Trooping of the Colors parade celebrating the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment’s) 150th anniversary as well as the Governor General visiting to proclaim the regiment’s armoury as a national historic site – Thanks for the info Amanda and congratulations to your regiment 🙂
