Project 365 – Day 178: Beaudry Metro station

June 26 2012

During writing the recent post on the Gay Village I discovered that Beaudry metro station is the only one that features a moving walkway. Since today was overcast and threatening to rain at any moment I decided to go check out Beaudry metro.

The station isn’t exactly what you would term an architectural masterpiece and really the only feature of the station (except for the gay pride rainbow pillar facade) is the moving walkway linking the entrance to the platform.

Although I had my tripod with me, I decided to shoot handheld. Due to relatively poor lighting I set the ISO to 800 but even so, some of the longer HDR exposures were slightly blurred due to camera movement. I did manage a couple of 3 bracketed HDR shots, but mainly the images below are from single exposures.

It wasn’t until after I left that I thought of a shot I should have tried – resting the camera on the rail (or tripod) while on the walkway and taking a relatively long exposure that would have blurred everything except the floor and any stationary people on the same walkway – an idea for another day perhaps 🙂 I would be interested to know if anyone has tried this on a moving walkway or escalator?

I recall earlier in the project that I planned to photograph the entire metro system of Montreal. Well, having photographed Lionel Groulx station back in February, that now only leaves another 66 to go 🙁
