Following on from yesterday’s post, I thought I would take a wander down a typical back street on Le Plateau. This particular back alley is located between rue Rachel est and avenue Duluth and runs behind Ave Laval and ave de L’Hotel de Ville. The alley is fairly typical of the alley’s that run north/south throughout the Plateau.

Despite the Plateau being one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Canada, these alleyways provide a break from the traffic and hustle and bustle of their adjacent streets and a place for neighbors to meet and kids to play safely.

In the summer, many become an oasis of green foliage and I look forward to sharing some more alley pics here once the trees find their summer clothing.
A typical sight on warm dry days is washing hanging across the alleys to dry. Many of the multi-housing units have a washing line with a pulley system that allows for washing to be strung between balconies and nearby telegraph poles. This following one looks like it hasn’t been used in a while.

On rue Marie Anne est at the corner of ave Coloniale is an interesting designed home/apartment complex. I don’t know the name of the architect unfortunately, but they certainly stand out from the adjacent typical duplexes and triplexes.

A few doors to the east this window with ivy creeping across the wall caught my eye.
