With all the recent activities and high level resignations going on down at City Hall last week, I thought I would go and check to see if in fact anyone was still working there – I didn’t see many people, but the lights were on, so I guess that’s a good sign.
If you haven’t been following the news here in Montreal, Mayor Tremblay resigned last week having lost the confidence of the general public following recent testimonies being given at the Charbonneau Commission into corruption within the construction industry. Tremblay’s resignation was followed with Michael Applebaum resigning from his position as Chair of the Executive Committee on Friday – although in his case it was due to him not agreeing with the committee keeping an internal working document secret from the public, so it probably should have been the members of the Committee who really need to resign 😉
You can”t say politics is boring with the daily allegations and witness statements of illegal party funding, rigged bidding by construction companies on local municipal contracts, City engineers receiving pay offs and the Mafia getting their cut. All these additional hands in the pot leading to public contracts costing tax payers 30-40% more than they should.
Richard Deschamps will most likely be announced as the interim Mayor until the Municipal elections are held in November 2013, but whoever gets the job, they have some serious in-house cleaning to take care of.
Anyway, I would rather share some images than be on my soap box bitching about the crazy corruption that”s been wasting tax dollars over the years. So here are some shots I took around City Hall earlier this evening.
