September 2 2012
Today marked the start of the 9th edition of the International festival – Les Escales Improbables de Montreal. The festival is a mix of activities, art installations and shows are being held at various locations across the city until September 14th. Locations include the Bassin Bonsecours in the Old Port, Usine C, Bain Mathieu and La Promenade des Artistes in the Quartier des Spectacles.
I went to take a look at the Forêt art installation by Phil Allard and Justin Duchesneau at the Promenade des Artistes. The installation is a 20 ft high tower made with over 750 wood pallets with 4 entrances allowing you to enter the calm space within. The festival program describes the piece as;
“A place of cubic mediation……..Forêt represents, with its four cardinal points , the meeting and connection of the territories of our great country, a haven of peace in the city”
