Despite it feeling like minus 15 – very different from last year when it was plus 20 – thousands of spectators lined Sainte Catherine street for the 190th annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade yesterday. With over 3,000 participants from over 100 organizations the Montreal parade is one of the largest St Paddy’s day parades in North America.
Seeing that the crowds were several people deep on the sunny north side of Sainte Catherine’s I decided to stick to the south side where it was a little easier to get a better view – but paid the price of being frozen for most of the two and a half hours the parade took to make its way from Fort Street to Phillips Square…I was beginning to wish I had brought my hip flask filled with a little Irish warmth.
