The big move

Happy Canada Day Moving Day. While many across Canada fire up their BBQ’s and basically take it easy during Canada’s National Holiday, here in Quebec, literally thousands spend the day (if not the entire long weekend) hauling their belongings to their new abode. July 1st marks the renewal on many rental leases, hence is often the time many decide/have to move.

Like last year, I tried to grab a few shots of people moving or the many piles of belongings that are left on the sidewalk – always a busy time for the teams of city garbage collectors – and a great time for those looking for second (plus) hand furniture and items. The city discourage people from picking up mattresses and sofa’s from the sidewalk to prevent the spread of bed bugs and encourage people moving to enclose such items in plastic – I only saw 1 mattress wrapped in plastic, so appears a bit more work needed on that front.

My favorite shot of the day has to be of the truck that was just pulling away with the head of a mannequin wearing a wig and cycling helmet looking down at a Spiderman figure. The contents of the truck also seemed to be very color coordinated in red and black 🙂

At least the weather was great for those having to move, no rain and not too humid. If you were moving home today, hope all went well…for everyone in Canada (either moving, or not) Happy Canada Day !

Thank for stopping by.

Until next time.
