Montreal Grand Prix weekend

The F1 Grand Prix was in Montreal a few weekends ago. As in previous years I didn’t get to go to the race and this year only managed to check out the street parties on one occasion (June 6).

This year was pretty much the same as past years with regard to flashy cars being displayed along Peel street from Thursday through to Sunday and packed bar terraces on Crescent street. I didn’t really capture many great shots during my brief visit, but here are a couple…

F1 street party on Peel

As I mentioned, Peel street is generally all about flashy cars; Ferrari’s, Porsche’s, Lamborghini’s and…a vintage slightly rusty (but very polished) Packard.

The Packard was located beneath the angled windows of the adjacent office building that gave a nice overhead reflection.

The interior though still looks like it needs a bit of work.

Peel is also a good street for photographing people watching people…

Crescent Street

For over a decade, Crescent street has hosted a street party during the F1 Grand Prix weekend. The street was packed when I passed by and I didn’t stick around long. I was planning to go back in the evening, but didn’t make it, so unfortunately I didn’t get many shots this year.

Saint Laurent Boulevard was also closed between rue Sherbrooke and avenue des Pins. I didn’t see much to shoot, except for a great sculpture called IncorporApe made of wood and cardboard by the super-talented Laurence Vallières – a local Montreal artist.

During the F1 weekend it was announced that the F1 management signed a contract extension to keep the Grand Prix in Montreal for at least the next 10 years, so perhaps one year I will actually get to go to the race.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
