Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery in winter

As mentioned in the last post, today I have some shots taken at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery on Mount Royal that I took on Monday this week.

The Cemetery is the largest in Canada (third in North America) and with 55km of lanes to explore in the 343 acre site you could literally spend day’s exploring this peaceful corner of Montreal. I did in fact discover a few new spots due to walking to the western edge in order to visit the Outremont Summit of Mount Royal (pics to come soon).

I began my walk though at a familiar spot near to the entrance on Camillien Houde Way near Lac aux Castors. I wanted to get a shot of the row of mausoleums that I shot last autumn.

I was happy to find my old friend foxy enjoying the fresh snow. It may be a different fox from the one I shot during my visit in autumn, but this one was just as friendly and hung around a while, marking his spot and playing in the snow, before heading off for new adventures (or a siesta) and I lost him/her until the next time we meet.

Nearby the entrance to the cemetery on chemin de la Côtes-des-Neiges there’s a cool tree (I don’t know the variety unfortunately) but I had to stop and take a few shots from various angles…

There are some nice views of Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal as you climb the slope at the north side of the cemetery.

I was constantly on the lookout for a monument that would allow me to frame the dome of the Oratory and came across this one that worked pretty well.

The north side of the cemetery runs alongside the campus of the University of Montreal and I found a new angle to shoot the iconic tower of the Roger Gaudry Pavilion. This was my favourite image of the few shots I captured.

That’s all I have from this visit to the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery, but already craving to return and find some more spots I have yet to discover and while there is still snow on the ground – of which more is falling as I write this post 🙂

Instagram

I know, I’m a bit late signing up over on Instagram but I decided yesterday to take the plunge and signed up for an Instagram account. Given the square format of images and filters, my image stream should be somewhat different to images I post anywhere else across the web. So if you are on Instagram feel free to follow me…I’m currently a bit lonely over there 🙁

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
