Christ Church Cathedral

Not having anything specific in mind on what to go and shoot today, I decided to just take a wander downtown around rue Sainte-Catherine and ended up taking a few shots of Christ Church Cathedral between avenue Union and rue University.

I was fortunate that, at the time of passing the front, there were no cars parks immediately in front of the cathedral and so I quickly took a handheld shot to try and capture the Christmas lights adorning the trees on either side of the entrance. I would have tried a long exposure to get some car trails passing in front, but there was a pretty strong wind and the Christmas lights would have ended up being pretty blurred. With hindsight I should have given it a try anyway, as it may have been produced an interesting look….one for another time.

I played around a bit in post processing with another shot from the same location using Topaz Adjust and ended up with a heavily grained grunge style.

Behind the cathedral is a courtyard/square dedicated to Raoul Wallenberg, Hero of Humanity, who saved thousands of Jews in Hungary from concentration camps during World War II.

I stopped to get a couple of shots of the tree decorated in lights at the center of the square. The tree and decoration is quite different from the one I photographed there last year. I hadn’t planned on it, but this first shot was taken at almost the same spot as one I took last year.

Just for fun, here is last year’s tree versus this year’s…

 Rue University

You may have noticed (or not) that I didn’t post anything here yesterday. If you didn’t see the image of the day posted over on the social media sites, here was yesterday’s shot…Actually it was taken last week on my evening walk about.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
