Cruise Ships in Old Port of Montreal

Late afternoon yesterday I stopped by the Old Port of Montreal to get some pictures of the two cruise ships that are currently moored in Montréal – The Crystal Symphony and AIDAbella.

The Crystal Symphony cruise ship

First, a look at the Crystal Symphony cruise ship that was docked between the Quai des Convoyeurs and the Alexandra Quay.

The Crystal Symphony was built in Finland  and is operated by Crystal Cruises. The ship entered service in 1995 and cost US$250M. The ship measures 781 feet, has 12 decks and carries 992 passengers (545 crew members).

The Crusie liner has been cruising the North East coast of USA and Canada during the Autumn and will be in Montreal until Thursday when she leaves for New York and then a long voyage around South America to Asia – Now that’s a cruise I would like to join !

The AIDAbella cruise ship

The AIDAbella is moored on the other side of the Alexandra Quay in the Alexandra Basin.

The ship was launched in October 2007 and is operated by AIDA Cruises. Looking at the 2 ships, I actually thought this was the smaller of the two. However, The AIDAbella measures 826 feet, has 14 decks and carries 2,050 passengers (plus 646 crew members) – A ship spotter I clearly am not ;-).

The ship is also due to depart on tomorrow for New York, after which in November she will be sailing the Caribbean throughout the winter before heading off to Europe in the spring.

Looking at the cruise ships and checking their itineries has made me really want a holiday 🙁

While I was in the area, I grabbed a couple of shots of the Grain Silo #5, Habitat 67 and Bota Bota spa…The clouds and light were particularly nice, despite not being a great sunset.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time – unless I manage to stow aboard one of the ships 😉
