Sunset and Piano Cité under a street lamp

Yesterday evening I headed up Mount Royal in the hope to catch someone playing the piano located at the Kondiaronk Belvédère which I shot last week during the day. In that post I mentioned it would likely make a cool shot at night as the piano is positioned beneath a lamp post.

But first, since I was on the mountain a little early and the sun hadn’t set, I decided to head on over to the north side and shoot the sunset. Like last Thursday – when I shot the sunset from Bassin Bonsecours – there were very few clouds during the whole day, but just in time for sunset, a few clouds decided to appear giving a little interest to sky.

As a little experiment, I took a shot of solely the sky with a thought of creating an abstract image. Using Topaz Lens Effects I added a little motion blur and flipped the image vertically. Not sure about the outcome, but always fun trying new things.

After watching the sunset, I made my way to the other side of the mountain to the Kondiaronk Belvédère. Thankfully someone was at the piano as I believe this is the final week of Piano-Cité and not sure if I will be back up Mount Royal in the next few days.

Since I had the tripod, I decided to shoot at ISO 100 as I wanted slightly longer exposures to get a bit of movement. With hindsight, I would have probably been better shooting at around 400 ISO, allowing a smaller aperture to get a better star burst from the lamp.

While I was at the lookout, I took some shots of the night Montréal skyline, but will post those tomorrow 😉

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
