Piano’s in the street

For the second summer, piano’s have been out on the street in the Plateau. Since the beginning of June, four piano’s were placed at various locations in the Plateau as well as one in Old Montreal (located at place d’Youville).

The event – Piano des villes, pianos des champs (Piano of the cities, piano of the fields) – was orchestrated by cultural organizations and merchant associations with the aid of funding from the local borough.

Each piano has a musician sponsor that agreed to do impromptu performances on their sponsored paino – I still have to catch a performance.

This year, in order to spread the love of music, the piano’s were moved to new locations half way through the summer. From August 6 to September 29 the Plateau piano’s are at the following locations:

  • Park of the Americas, sponsored by Alex Nevsky
  • Laurier metro, sponsored by Fanny Bloom
  • Corner of Saint-Denis and Duluth Avenue East, sponsored by Yann Perreau
  • Park Fellow-de-Saint-Laurent, sponsored by Louise-Andrée Baril

I’ve so far only seen 2 of the piano’s. The first shot is of the piano on avenue Duluth (next to the great mural by Philippe Mastrocola):

I had seen this piano in its original location on rue Marie-Anne est earlier in the summer:

Last weekend, while walking through the street sale on blvd Saint-Laurent, I managed to get a shot of the piano in the Park of the Americas

Hoping I will get some shots of the other 3 piano’s before they are taken off the street and find a new home when they are donated to non-profit organisations in the borough.

The pianos are available for anyone to play between 10 am and 8 pm every day of the week. For info on any special events, you can check out the Piano des villes, pianos des champs Facebook page.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
