Project 365 – Day 215: Festival Mode et Design Montréal (part 2)

August 02 2012

Not having a better idea for where to go to get today’s picture/s, I decided to head back down to the Festival Mode et Design Montréal to catch the 12.45 show on the main stage on avenue McGill College.

Due to the strong sun light I decided to process all the images in monochrome and push the contrast and clarity to give the shots a bit of a grunge/street look. Since the show by Centre Eaton was downtown urban it was perhaps in keeping with the theme.

In addition to the bright light and shadow issue, standing at eye level to the catwalk was not ideal either due to having to shoot from below the models which is not generally recommended – one reason why I shot a lot with a wide angle. I decided for a few shots to just concentrate on the fancy footwear on display…at least they were close and level with me 🙂

Most of the guy’s outfits were something I thought I could see myself wearing…but I’m really hoping that the tucking a denim Jacket in your jeans look doesn’t catch-on and become mainstream 😉

Just round the corner from all the fashion happenings, I found out that earlier in the morning at around 9am a cyclist had got into a dispute with a driver of an SUV – Seems like the SUV won the non-verbal part of the dispute and police were still on the scene investigating if the SUV driver had run into the cyclist on purpose. The cyclist was in a serious but stable condition last I heard.

I quickly passed through the Quartier des Spectacles where the 22nd edition of the Montreal First Peoples festival (Présence Autochtone) is taking place until August 8. It was a bit quite, so decided I’ll try to return over the weekend.  The traffic guard was looking busy though.

Next to Place des Arts I spotted this guy in a suit holding a dog chatting to some ladies. I thought it would make an interesting shot. Not quite sure what was going on here, but looking at the shot you could think he was selling dogs out of a suitcase 😉
