Île d’Orléans

July 24 2012

At last I have got round to going through the pics I took during a recent 2 day visit (9th and 10th July) up to Québec City.

If you ever visit Montreal, I highly recommend taking some time to visit Québec’s capital city. It’s wonderful narrow cobbled streets will make you think you have landed somewhere in Europe.

The first day was spent mainly touring the nearby island – Île d’Orléans. Sitting in the middle of the Saint Lawrence river, the island is a designated historical district which has preserved the traditional Quebec countryside. Île d’Orléans provides visitors with varied touristic options, including; agritourism, scenic and cultural/heritage sites and numerous activities to enjoy.

We were fortunate to have my girlfriend’s sister and partner – who have a home on the island – give us a guided tour. I could easily spend a lot of time shooting here and would love to photograph it (and the people) during the different seasons…maybe a future project 😉

Our first stop was the Foyer de Charité Notre-Dame d’Orléans that provides spiritual and healing retreats. I was not sure how they felt about photographing but grabbed a few shots of the wonderful view over the Saint Lawrence river and of the vine covered walkway in the garden.

I could easily have spent more time exploring the buildings and gardens, but the tour must continue…

Next stop was the Église de Saint-Jean-de-l’Île-d’Orléans.

Like I said, I could spend a lot more time shooting this wonderful historic island – there are over 600 listed buildings and monuments having heritage value – and enjoying the peace and tranquility found here…

I would really like to spend more time there – so many photo opportunities I think living there for a complete year to capture the beauty and people through all the seasons would be be a nice project 🙂
