I was a bit rushed on the photo taking front today and only managed to capture a few shots around Place des Arts late afternoon.

The picture of the day is an abstract of the facade of the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier building. Built in 1963 the hall was originally known as the Grande Salle before being renamed in honour of the conductor Wilfrid Pelletier.

The Place des Arts website hails it as being the largest multi-purpose concert hall in Canada with a seating capacity of 2,990. The hall’s versatility makes it the ideal venue for all types of performances and presentations from opera to rock, dance to symphony to musical comedy. Many famed artists have played here; Ella Fitzgerald, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Luciano Pavarotti, Miles Davis, to name just a few.

On the corner of rue Ontario and rue Saint Urbain there’s an art installation featuring 3 sculptures by Canadian artists  John McEwen and Marlene Moore-Hilton. The sculpture is called After Babel, A Civic Square and was installed in 1993.
