Project 365 – Day 90: From Palais des Congrés to Place d’Armes

March 30 2012

I had a plan today after looking through some David Hockney images to go and attempt a Hockney inspired collage of Place d’Armes. Let’s just say that it’s a working project given today’s effort was a total disaster.

Luckily I took some other shots while I was out. Unlike yesterday where I had a central theme of curved buildings running through the entire post, today ended up being a mish mash of images.

Anyone who lives or has visited Montréal will likely be familiar with the colorful glass wall at the Palais des Congrès. Since it was late afternoon the sun was shining directly on to the glass and I was fortunate enough that people were descending down one of the escalators that gave the shot a bit more of a human focus.

I passed through Place des Arts on my little walkabout and came across this group of girls having a picnic directly under an art installation made of mirrors. Unfortunately they didn’t invite me to join them 🙁

Here is another shot just of the mirror and reflection from below. In case you’re wondering, the blue quadrant in the top right is part of a round mirror pointed toward the sky.

This next guy was looking totally relaxed in the sun (despite it not being as warm as last week).

As I said, my original plan had been to do a montage over at Place d’Armes. Although that didn’t end up working out, I did capture an HDR across the recently re-designed square viewed from the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral. I was lucky that a bird flew into one of the three exposures.
